In "Chappie" we can give a new side of the filmmaker. As noted above, the great advantage of this movie is comedy. Well, who would have thought a movie about the future and robots could be funny? The laughs are very natural and the script induces us to win the favor of the protagonist who acts unexpectedly every new discovery.
Importantly, however, that this is not a work of slapstick comedy. What makes the funny movie is precisely the unusual situation with little menacing gangsters a clumsy robot and appropriate music and mannerisms that are more than a little unusual to our friend Chappie.
It is also worth to note that the film manages to balance the comedy with dramatic moments, we got to feel sorry for a machine, and stuffed action scenes complete with a giant robot a la Metal Gear. In fact, it is precisely in sequences watered adrenaline that the title can stand out, leaving little joke aside and showing the dangers of the future.
Intermediating the history of robots, we have a select group of actors (and even the musicians of Die Antwoord) that can sustain the plot without difficulties. The supporting cast gives the feeling that this is a possible future where we still have governments with questionable decisions and thinking companies money above all else. The choice of South Africa as main stage comes in handy, since there are very favorable scenarios for the development of some key scenes in the plot.
Advanced technologies and consistent
Well, leaving the plot a little aside, it comment on an element that was of paramount importance to the construction of the film: the technology. This is a flawed point in many works that depict the future, as some creators have very avoadas ideas that do not convince the public or who simply are so far removed from reality.
Fortunately, Blomkamp with its precise feel, to create the script, chose to include credible solutions that enable the audience to embrace the plot hard. Although they spend in 2016, a very next year for some ideas, technologies presented are not so far from reality.
In theory, robotics police force presented in the film is not impossible to create even more because they are machines that do not have full autonomy. With a little effort, we could think of a very advanced cloud computing would help in the control of androids.
